Ashley Chapin (she/her) is a scientist by training using her knack for communications and team building to advance ranked choice voting advocacy groups in the DMV.
She began her journey with Initiative 83 as a canvasser and eventually became the campaign’s social media manager. She now serves as the Volunteer Coordinator for Grow Democracy DC, aiming to instill a sense of community and purpose in volunteers across the district as RCV educators. She believes that everyone in the district can learn how to rank their ballot, and is eager to make voters feel empowered at the voting booth.
Our mission is to educate and empower the District for a smooth and successful transition to ranked choice voting.
We focus on three core goals:
In 2024, DC voters approved Initiative 83 with 73% of the vote, bringing ranked choice voting to
the District beginning with the June 2026 primary election. Our team carried Initiative 83 across
the finish line, and now we are continuing educational efforts as the Grow Democracy DC
Civic Education Fund.
We are preparing the District for this historic shift by educating voters, candidates, and election
administrators on how ranked choice voting works, and why it matters.
Our approach is rooted in community connection. Beginning in 2025, our team has taken RCV
education directly to the people — from senior centers and neighborhood festivals to student
programs and citywide events. Through hands-on workshops, creative outreach, and trusted
partnerships, we aim to ensure every voter feels informed and every community feels seen.
Grow Democracy DC Civic Education Fund is proud to serve as a bridge between civic
institutions and everyday residents — helping Washington, DC lead the way in building a
democracy that works for everyone.
